Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High)” video pretty much depicts the depressing side of The Prodigy’s “Smack My Bitch Up”.
Whereas The Prodigy’s main character doesn’t give a fuck, Tove Lo’s follows the post-breakup carpe diem and the accidental moments of feeling your actual emotions.
Just in time for the Holidays, Mr. Little Jeans released “Dear Santa” – a 1950s style Christmas track.
The cheery-sounding track has the twist of Mr. Little Jeans lamenting how amid all the festivities “on Christmas day, I’ll be the loneliest girl” due to a long-distance relationship (“A kiss on the phone won’t make up for being alone”). Reminds me of Figurine’s “IMpossible” and the line “These instant message conversations are filled with empty explanations. 12-point text cannot replace five minutes with you face-to-fact…”
Dream pop trans-global duo Say Lou Lou releases a new track this morning – “Better in the Dark.”
The dream pop duo keeps the breathy Lykke Li-style vocals but builds this track with more orchestral percussions in place of their usual synth beats.

Sally Shapiro is an italo disco duo that sounds like the vocals of a faster, happier Au Revoir Simone with the italo disco high-hats and synth beats.
“He Keeps Me Alive” is another one of those electro tracks that has such a happy beat but actually has somewhat sad lyrics. With its happy synths and high-hats juxtaposed by sad lyrics of “remember[ing] we’re just friends.”
I am forever thankful for Last Lynx both because their song “Killingswitch” is amazing and also because they’re the reason I learned about AM Shawn & Lee – both bands fall in that semi-funk bassline mixed with mellow bluesy guitars 70s-influenced sound.
Frida Sundemo‘s sound is a mix of Robyn’s smooth, calm vocals and MNDR’s beats but all faster and happier while mix.
In fact, the 0:48 mark of “Indigo” somewhat matches the style of the 0:38 mark of MNDR’s “Jump In” but smoother and slower.
Scandinavia shows no end in sight when it comes to producing great electropop acts – another example of which is Be the Bear – a duo created by Denmark (and England’s) Christina Wehage and Sweden’s Mattias Bolin.
“Bump” by Be the Bear is a cute, upbeat track about being in-like with someone – borderline obsessive infatuation, but the beat and Wehage’s high-pitched vocals make it cute instead of creepy. Continue reading “Bump” by Be the Bear
Dreampop sirens Say Lou Lou released their latest single “Julian” today.
Much like their previous single “Maybe You,” “Julian” makes you feel as if you’re swimming in a romantic flood. But this time, it’s filled with dramatic overtures of percussion.
Say Lou Lou (formerly Saint Lou Lou) refer to themselves as “DREAM WAVE LOVE”.
This Swedish-Australian duo are the epitome of dream pop: The heavy distorted beats engulf you while their soft, soothing voices lure you further in.
Note: It can’t be ignored that the members of Say Lou Lou are also both extremely hot – I mean they do come from two countries with the sexiest populations…
